Abstract
Dietary intake of beta- and gamma-hexachlorocyclohexane (beta- and gamma-HCH) by albino rats for 2 weeks (at 800 microg/g) resulted in hyperlipaemia and fatty metamorphosis of liver. Liver fat content was increased by both beta- and gamma-HCH. Significant increases were observed in triacylglycerol and phospholipid fractions of blood. The incorporation of [14C]acetate and palmitate into liver and blood lipids was greater in HCH pre-treated rats, suggesting a higher rate of fat synthesis in liver and of secretion as well.
