Abstract

This article reviews the work done at the Central Food Technological Research Institute, Mysore on development and use of supplementary food formulations for feeding pre-school children. Food supplements covered are protein rich foods based on oilseed meals and legumes; protein enriched malt food macaroni from tapioca and wheat, nutrobiscuits; low cost Bal-ahar, ready-to-eat extrusion cooked foods; and 'energy food'. Methods of increasing acceptability and increasing storage life are given.
