Abstract
Various aspects to be considered in the selection of packaging materials for dressed chicken, including physical strength and heat-sealing properties of the chicken such as colour, flavour, odour, bacteriological spoilage and moisture loss in the poultry meat during storage, are outlined. Packaging materials discussed include: polyethylene film; shrinkable polyethylene; polypropylene; polyvinyl chloride; polyvinylidene co-polymers such as Saran and Cryovac; polyesters such as Mylar or Melinex; cellophane; MSADT film; and Pliofilm, a plasticized and stabilized rubber hydrochloride.
