Abstract

Creep measurement of fruit and vegetables is of importance for assessment of probability of damage during handling and transport. Conventional physical methods for measurement of creep behaviour are subject to equipment and human error. A new method for measurement of creep behaviour of fruit and vegetables is decribed using a PC-based real-time Data Acquisition System using the Linear Variable Differential Transformer (variable inductance transducer) technique. The main advantages of this technique include simplicity, ease of fabrication and installation, wide range of displacement (0-10 mm) which can be measured, high resolution, rugged construction, ability to operate at high temp., good linearity , high sensitiviy, freedom from human error, and capacity for real time monitoring.
