Abstract
The food industry has made considerable progress in developing foods for individuals with metabolic disorders and special nutritional needs. Examples of processed foods belonging to this category are described and include: high-calorie foods; low-calorie foods; high-protein foods; low-protein foods; low-fat foods; low-sodium foods; and low-gluten foods. Foods containing modified carbohydrates and foods low in specific amino acids have also been produced.
