Abstract
Male rats weighing 100 to 110 g were given the organophosphorus insecticide pirimiphos-methyl 100 or 200 mg/kg bodyweight daily for 21 days without or with L-ascorbic acid 200 mg/kg 1 h before the insecticide was given. Inhibition of acetylcholinesterase in brain and cholinesterase in plasma by pirimiphos-methyl was less in rats given ascorbic acid than in those not given it. Ascorbic acid and glucuronic acid were increased in urine of rats given pirimphos-methyl.
