Additional Information: | Soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merrill) is an economically important crop, which is a rich and inexpensive source of proteins. The isoflavones- genistin and daidzin, as well as, their aglucones (non-glucoside forms) i.e. genistein (5,7,4'-trihydroxyisoflavone) and daidzein (7, 4'-dihydroxy-isoflavone) are the primary isoflavones present in soybeans. In the present study in vitro callus and shoot cultures of soybean varieties and the same along with ex vitro cultures were used for analysis of the isoflavones profile. The presence of one or other isoflavones in callus and suspension cultures and also in cotyledon, hypocotyl and seed samples was confirmed. But the isoflvanoes content varies with the sample and the total isoflavones were more in the seeds compared to ex vitro leaves etc. Under induced drought conditions in vitro, elevated levels of isoflavones- daidzein and genistein was noticed, and this could be useful to establish the drought tolerant in vitro regenerated plants under field conditions with better isoflavones production in their seeds. The different legumes along with cloves were also found to be very rich source of isoflavones in our study. Similarly the analysis of different soy products obtained from market for their isoflavones content revealed the presence of these compounds. |
