Additional Information: A study was conducted to evaluate how the bacterial isolate disrupts the yeast cells. The CB12 bacteria were found to be pleomorphic in nature, which binds to the surface of the yeast and utilized the yeast cell for its survival. The bacteria survived as a parasite. The analysis of the infection cycle of the bacteria confirms the pleuromorphic nature of the isolate and it was found to be cocci in the initial stages and started to transform into a rod shaped bacteria with time. It was observed that the proteases produced by the CB12 culture is not responsible for the lysis of the yeast. The high protease activity found between 24 – 28 hours of growth on media is casein directed rather than yeast directed. The same was confirmed with the PAGE system. The comparison of the electron micrographs with the protease activity of the bacteria showed that the period when the infectiveness was high the protease activity was also high and the protease activity decreased after the attachment of the CB12 bacteria to the yeast wall cell. Result shows that the extracellular proteases are not responsible for the yeast lytic activity. The lysis may mostly be due to the membrane bound enzymes or other enzymes like glucanases, manannases or lipases.
