Abstract

Enzymic saccharification of alkali-treated sugar-cane bagasse was improved when a mixture of cellulases obtained from A. ustus and T. viride was used. 90% conversion was achieved when the substrate concn. was 8% suspended in 0.1 M citrate buffer and the enzyme dose was 1.0 U ml---1. Optimum reaction temp. was 50 degree C and the period of hydrolysis was 72 h. Glucose and xylose were the main products of hydrolysis and they were found in the ratio of 3:1. No cellobiose was detected in the hydrolysate.
