Abstract

Sublethal and less than LD50 doses of the fumigants (i) acrylonitrile and (ii) ethylene dibromide were bioassayed alone and as a mixture at different proportions (w/w) against the adult stages of Tribolium castaneum and Sitophilus oryzae in void and in the presence of wheat for 24 h. Mortality was always higher with the mixture than when either was used alone. Comparison of mortality data at the end of treatment and after 15 days showed variations for both the insects, particularly with higher doses of (ii); with S. oryzae the variation was unusually high.
