Abstract

Efficacy of 3 methods for extraction of lipids and fatty acids from 6 fungal cultures was studied. The extraction methods were: chloroform/methanol (2:1), hexane/isopropanol (3:2) and Soxhlet extraction using hexane. Total lipid and fatty acid compositions varied depending on the extraction conditions. Of the 3 methods, chloroform/methanol (2:1) was found to be the best for extraction of lipids and fatty acids from fungal cultures.
