Abstract

This Dissertation / Report is the outcome of investigation carried out by the creator(s) / author(s) at the department/division of Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI), Mysore mentioned below in this page.

Item Type: Student Project Report
Additional Information: One of the high growth areas in fermentation technology is the search for new bioactive molecules from microbial sources. Besides antibiotics, some of the bioactive molecules include mammalian enzyme inhibitors, mycotoxins, herbicides, insecticides etc., One such group of bioactive metabolites produced by fermentation is low molecular weight enzyme inhibitors. α-glucosidase is a typical exo-type α-glucosidic O-linkage-hydrolase releasing D-glucose from the non-reducing end of the substrate. Inhibitors against this enzyme are used as potential anti-diabetics and anti-viral agents. A trial has been made to screen and produce an inhibitor of α- glucosidase from some fungal source. The present work deals with the screening, selection and partial purification of a fungal culture for the effective production of the α-glucosidase inhibitor.
